Decades Reflection
East Los Angeles 1960s
What did you learn about your decade and location that you didn't know before this project?
Something that I learned about my decade and location that I didn't know before this project was how there was a lot of kids back then who didn't care at all about schooling. Another thing is how
Explain at least 2 connections you see between your decade/location and the world today. What is still the same? What has changed?
One connection between my decade and today is how people living in East LA still deal with problems having to do with low income and crimes but not as much as it used to. Another is gangs protecting their territory across LA and causing trouble.
Which artifact your group produced is your personal favorite? Why?
My favorite artifact that my group produced was our painting that was in the making throughout the whole project. It's my personal favorite because of the time and hard work that was put into it to get a great outcome.
Which aspect did you learn about the most (social/cultural, economic, and political)?
An aspect that I learned the most was for social cultural how policemen would aggressively treat and criticize people on the way they look and would arrest them for no reason. People were harmed and Family and society of teens were harmed even more. For economic I learned how the struggle was within these low income neighborhoods and parents with kids that were criminals out in the streets.
If you could change one thing about this project, what would it be?
I would change my CYOA Story because of some errors that were made within the book I wrote.
What book did you read as a group? Provide a brief synopsis and briefly describe how this book relates to your decade/location.
The book we read was Bloods & Crips and the American Menace this book is based on how life was in Los Angeles in a ghetto, low income neighborhood. It told a story about a young individual beginning to do crimes at such a young age starting at the age of ten making his way till he was 20. This book showed and told how things were in the 6os in this area.
